We’ve recently discovered a brilliant, inspiring and free online course aimed at helping problem solvers create change in a complex world. Facilitated by The Omidyar Group and +Acumen, ‘Systems Practice: a practical approach to move from impossible to impact’ focuses on how to implement a Systems Practice approach to multifaceted challenges, helping you to understand complex problems in any field of social development. The approach helps to understand how to expand the breath, depth and impact of your work.
This course is valuable to built environment professionals from a number of sectors. From structural engineers, architects and site engineers to consultants, economists and planners, the type of issues you will be dealing with in your work are likely to involve a number of interlinked disciplines, stakeholders and frameworks, as well as people with different scientific principles, influences and beliefs. Underestimating or misunderstanding these interconnections can lead to numerous issues or efforts not generating the desired results when working on projects.
The course provides a practical approach to navigating complex situations and using them to make informed decisions. This is a great opportunity to expand your learning and develop practical skills to compliment your build environment skills. You will get the most out of the course if you take it in groups of two to four people, so you can team up with colleagues, friends or join the course discussion forum a month before the start of the course to find a team to join.
The next course start date is October 9th, 2018.
You’ll need around seven hours a week to complete the course, and you’ll receive a certificate of accomplishment from +Acumen once you have successfully completed it. Don’t forget to tag the #HappoldFoundation in your bio so we can connect with you.
