Sam Youdan
Human Development Hub leader
Sam first volunteered for development work in Namibia in 2001 and have been working on similar projects ever since, including a year in Malawi as a Construction Manager & Design Engineer for the Krizevac Project.
Since joining Buro Happold in 2006, Sam has been involved in both Buro Happold’s International Development Community and the Happold Foundation, working on and leading projects in Rwanda, Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi amongst others.
Sam has been a Trustee of the Happold Foundation since 2023 and leads the charity’s activities in Human Development.
A Director in the London Structural Engineering Team of Buro Happold, Sam has been involved on the Battersea Power Station project since 2012, leading the Repurposing and Refurbishment of the existing building. His love of building things crosses sectors, scales and continents and he is driven by creating opportunities for those less fortunate. Learning from the communities he works with a goal of maximising impact with a minimum footprint is at the heart of what drives Sam forward.
Sam’s days on the sports field have largely been replaced by chasing his two daughters around – which has turned out to be just as bruising, exhausting and fun!
