Olivia Hughes
Ambassador - Human Development
Olivia is a Structural Engineer currently working in Buro Happold’s Rotterdam office. She started her career in the Bath office after graduating with a Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Brighton, which included a work placement in Berlin.
Olivia’s involvement with Buro Happold’s Share Our Skills scheme has enabled her to work closely with the organisation Build It International to expand their learning plazas in Zambia. She looks forward to strengthening this relationship through her role as ambassador. She is also actively involved in bringing awareness of the Happold Foundation and humanitarian work to the Europe region. After travelling to Rwanda in 2022 to help build a suspended bridge with the charity Bridges to Prosperity, Olivia has helped facilitate the European build which will take place in 2024.
This role is important to Olivia as she believes that Engineers have a responsibility to take every opportunity to improve the lives of those who are most in need. She feels strongly aligned with the legacy of the Happold Foundation and Ted Happold’s belief that engineering can help support the needs of our global society.
In her free time Olivia enjoys exploring Utrecht and the Netherlands, playing Netball with other expats and trying new types of yoga, especially aerial!
