Laura Plazas
Ambassador - Education
Laura is a great personification of Ted Happold’s vision: architecture and engineering being seen as a whole. She studied Architecture (BArch) at the Central University of Venezuela and Architectural Engineering Environmental Design at the University of Bath (MSc). During her +16 years of professional experience, she has demonstrated that creativity and technology can be aligned and not divided. During the years, she has been privileged to have joined respectable architectural, construction and engineering firms in both Venezuela and the UK, being able to shape Laura’s role and vision within the Sustainability sector.
Laura’s relationship with the Happold Foundation started when she participated as a Judge for the Ted Happold Prize at the University of Bath. She supported with short listing young talented architects and engineering students for the 2022 cohort. This level of involvement gained Laura’s attention and interest towards the Buro Happold Foundation, as she realised how positively impactful it can become through shaping future generations.
Laura has had the opportunity to work alongside various Sustainability teams across the firm, supporting the London and Dubai office. This resilience demonstrates Laura’s commitment to professional growth and interdisciplinary collaboration between teams. As an ambassador, Laura is aiming to keep bridging industry genre gaps, and being an important voice for future female generations.
Outside the Sustainability world, Laura enjoys dancing salsa and afro Cuban styles and keeping an active and social life.
