We are delighted to announce that the recipient of the 2021/22 Happold Brilliant Award has been presented to University College London’s Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering. The award was to recognise the outstanding contribution of the Institute’s MEng Engineering and Architectural Design course. The presentation took place at the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE) President’s Award Dinner, which took place in October 2022. The award was presented to UCL’s Dejan Mumovic by Happold Foundation Trustee Priti Parikh.
The Happold Brilliant Award was created alongside CIBSE to recognise excellence in the teaching of building services engineering. The long-standing award was originally the idea of the Happold Foundation’s founder Ted Happold, who believed passionately in providing quality education and opportunities to future building services engineers.
The MEng Engineering and Architectural Design is a four-year programme jointly designed and delivered by the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, and UCL Civil Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. The course is run in close collaboration with industry leaders, offering students access to a range of major disciplines. Students have the opportunity to work in spaces such as Here East and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as well as UCL’s departments in Bloomsbury.
The CIBSE panel said during judging that they were “impressed by the high quality of graduates produced by the university. They felt that the project topics studied by the students cover a wide range of building services areas and include sustainability and renewable systems. The panel thought that UCL has excellent links with the industry through the advisory panel and UCL had very impressive facilities. The students are supported by experienced, helpful, and dedicated staff throughout their course.”
Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering Director Dejan Mumovic said, “We’re delighted for our students and staff on the Programme, who have worked incredibly hard since 2015 to make this pioneering education possible and to now receive the recognition from CIBSE Happold Brilliant Award is a great honour”.
