Emily McDonald
Trustee
Emily McDonald has worked in engineering for over 20 years. She graduated with a Masters in Engineering from Cambridge University in 1996, and after a period of volunteer work in Tanzania with Health Projects Abroad, she joined the BuroHappold Special Structures group in Bath. The role saw her work on a number of iconic projects, including the Millennium Dome. Following a period specialising in lightweight tensile structures at FTL Happold a joint architectural and engineering office in New York, she joined Robert Silman and Partners, working on a range of projects from new build sustainable offices to refurbishments of historic townhouses. Emily returned to BuroHappold as a member of the London Structures team in 2003, and is currently the UK Structures Regional Director.
As the mother of two, she has a passion for educating the next generation about the fascinating and varied opportunities a career in the built environment can offer. She has been a trustee of the Happold Foundation since 2007, and currently leads the charity’s Engineering Futures hub.
Emily has been a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers since 2000.
